Coronavirus: Upton Country Park opening event postponed until further notice

An event to mark the completion of the new Upton Country Park extension has been postponed until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Northampton Borough Council had planned to celebrate the end of the second phase of the development on Saturday (March 21).

Hide AdBut following Government advice against mass gatherings, the council has decided that the event will not go ahead at the end of this week.
Council leader Jonathan Nunn said: “It is with regret that we announce that the Upton Country Park opening event will not take place as planned.
“We know that cancellation of the event will be disappointing for residents, partners and traders, but considering current circumstances it is important to prioritise the health and safety of all those involved.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and a new date will be announced as soon as possible.”

Hide AdPhase two of the Upton Country Park development includes the construction of 2.4km of new paths and cycle ways, with new woodland and wetland, served by a viewing platform.
The first phase was completed in 2008 with the construction of the Elgar Centre, football pitches, a cricket square, woodland, footbridges, paths and benches.
