A charity that has raised millions of pounds for a Northampton hospice is celebrating its 30-year anniversary this year.

The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice was created in 1990 after the hospice in Spinney Hill opened in 1976.

Janet Pacey founded the charity in order to fundraise for the hospice, the chairty has since raised millions of pounds due to the generosity of the local community.

Now current members are looking ahead to celebrating the chairty's 30th anniversary in August this year.

Current chair of trustees, Pam Nock, said: “I remember the day it was formed so well.

“It was a reminder of my late father who was cared for so lovingly at the hospice.

“What a journey we have had throughout those years. Our journey could not have happened without the wonderful nursing team, both past and present, at the hospice and in the community.

“We also wouldn’t be where we are now without the amazing volunteers working in the hospice, our shops and donation station, the chaplaincy service, driving patients to and from the hospice and wellbeing centre, standing with collecting boxes in all weathers and supporting our events.

“I’d also like to say a very big thank you to all of our trustees who, over the years have given their time and passion to the charity and of course to our Patron Lord Spencer and Countess Spencer.”

Pam also went on to thank all the many members of the local community who have fundraised and shown their support for the charity over its 30-year history.

She paid tribute to the schools, colleges and religious groups that have completed fundraising, as well as the leisure industry, retail, banks, building societies and the business community in Northamptonshire.

Pam added: “To the many individuals and families raising funds in memory of their loved ones, all experiencing tears and laughter along the way, again we say a very big thank you.”
