Across Britain, each county has volunteers in hospitals and in the community, providing practical help, companionship and much more.

As part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ community fund initiative, the Northampton-based housebuilder has donated £1,000 to the charity that will aid the purchase of more PPE needed in order for volunteers to carry out their work.

Siôn Edwards, community and volunteer fundraising manager at the Royal Voluntary Service, said: “Royal Voluntary Service provides support to vulnerable people in the community, at home and in the NHS, ensuring they maintain social connections by providing emotional and practical support.

“During the Coronavirus pandemic, the charity has offered support to vulnerable people by offering shopping and prescription deliveries, transport to essential medical appointments, regular phone calls and activity packs.”

John Dillon, managing director for Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Midlands, added: “Our community fund initiative is designed to help support local charities and organisations in and around the communities in which we build.

“The work Royal Voluntary Service does to support older and vulnerable people is admirable and we are delighted to have been able to make a contribution to enable them to continue this.

“Many charities and organisations have been hugely impacted by the pandemic and we want to ensure we provide our support so they can continue to operate during this time.”
