A bubble tea shop that sells teas blended with milk or fruit juice and served with tapioca pearls and juice balls has opened in Weston Favell.

The aptly named Bubblylicious opened its doors over the weekend and is now serving the drink craze to the public.

The shop offers a range of bubble teas and tops the drinks with small, coloured balls, known as ‘the bubbles’.

Bubblylicious cooks the bubbles freshly everyday using tapioca, which is a starch extracted from a root vegetable called cassava.

This means that the beverages served at the new bubble tea shop are 100 per cent vegan, gluten-free and natural.

The outer shell of the juice balls is made from seaweed, so contains no gelatin.

Owner Rameez Ali Syed said: “We only use fresh, organic hand picked tea leaves. All our teas are handmade right in front of customers and we brew the tea every three hours to maintain the quality and taste as fresh as possible.”

What bubble tea looks like.

Bubble tea has been a craze in countries such as Taiwan since the 1980s but has only in the last few years reached the UK.

The bubbles are also great to use as toppings for desserts such as frozen yoghurt, cakes, ice cream and waffles.
