BBC Look East presenter Susie Fowler-Watt announces departure after 35 years to pursue new career

One of BBC Look East's best-known presenters has announced she is leaving the broadcaster after 35 years to pursue a new career as a psychotherapist.

Susie Fowler-Watt, who has been a familiar face to viewers across the region for three decades, will present her final programme on Friday, December 18.

The long-serving journalist, who has recently qualified as a psychotherapist, said she wanted to concentrate on her therapy work.

Susie said: "Presenting the BBC's 6.30pm regional news programme has been such a privilege, as you're very much part of your community and are invited into hundreds of thousands of homes every evening.

"I have grown up alongside our Look East audience, having become a lead presenter in my twenties.

"For me, it's about being a voice for our viewers and seeking answers on their behalf.

"I have absolutely loved the job, but I'm now in a new chapter of life, and keen to focus my energy on my therapy work."

Susie joined BBC Radio Surrey in 1991 before working in local radio and moving to the BBC's political unit at Westminster.

She later became political correspondent for BBC East before taking on her presenting role.

During her career, she has interviewed eight UK Prime Ministers and celebrities including Ed Sheeran.

Her reporting has covered major events including the Soham murders, the Covid pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

She has also embraced lighter broadcasting challenges, including skydiving and banger racing.

Robert Thompson, director of production for BBC Local, praised her contribution.

He said: "Susie has made an outstanding contribution to the BBC and audiences across the East of England."
