Following a hugely successful event in 2019, and then a virtual on last year, organisers were overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm from community groups and residents and hope this year’s event will attract even more support.

Taking place between 11am and 4pm, the event is organised by Northampton’s LGBTQ+ and Allies Forum and the Northampton Pride Committee, and aims to highlight the LGBTQ+ community, businesses and support organisations.

Previous celebrations have seen organisations such as Q Space, The Lowdown, Outlaws and Kinky Boots, Northampton Leisure Trust and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust taking part by holding pop-up shops.

Attendees had the opportunity to sample products from local businesses and producers as well as enjoy performances from local bands, singers and dancers.

Councillor David Smith, portfolio holder for community safety and engagement at West Northamptonshire Council said: “Pride in Northampton is about the people, for the people.

“We want to create something that shows local LGBT+ people that West Northants is a place where they can be open, out and honest.

“The Pride movement may have begun in cities, but today, it is far more expansive than that and we are proud to celebrate and to give local LGBT+ people the opportunity to come back together after what has been a difficult time for us all.

“Having a local Pride festival sends a strong message that diversity doesn’t just exist in the town – it’s actively celebrated.

“It also sends an important signal that prejudice will not be tolerated.”
