Air ambulance at scene of 'severe' crash on major Northampton road

A man has reportedly sustained serious injuries in a crash on a major Northampton road this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police told the Chronicle & Echo that emergency services have closed Welford Road this afternoon following a "severe" collision at around 12.10pm near Brampton Lane.

One man has reportedly suffered serious injuries and an air ambulance is at the scene following the incident involving a silver Jaguar XF.

On Twitter, the police serious collision investigation unit said: "We are currently on scene and dealing with a #collision on the #A5199 Welford Road near to Brampton Lane #Northampton. Please avoid the area and allow us to perform our work."

The road is closed in both directions and traffic is reportedly building.
