The University of Northampton is in talks with its staff over small scale redundancies after a "fall in numbers" on some courses.

A University of Northampton spokesman said: “A fall in student numbers for some courses in the Faculty of Arts, Science & Technology (FAST) means we are reviewing staffing and the course portfolio in relevant areas.

“The review has only just started but, with regret, may result in a very limited number of redundancies, with the equivalent of 11.5 positions which may be reduced, from a workforce of more than 2,000 staff."

All affected staff have been informed and are now taking part in the consultation processes almost two years after the university moved into its new £330m campus in September 2018.

He added: “This action is not a direct consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, and applies only to a minority of courses within FAST.”

It comes after the higher education provider issued a statement in August 2019 to say it has issued 14 redundancy notices as part of a move to streamline its academic structure from four faculties to three - which came into effect in September.
