An 89-year-old man has become the 500th resident at a Northamptonshire care home, which opened 11 years ago.

Gerald Stinson moved into Brampton View Care Home in Chapel Brampton after mobility issues began to make it more difficult for him to live independently.

After growing up in Kingsthorpe, Gerald left school at the age of 14 to become a painter and decorator, before changing his career to retail.

Gerald met his late wife, Anne, in 1956 and they married in 1960 at Primrose Hill Congregational Church in Barrack Road.

The couple lived their whole married life in Kingsthorpe in a bungalow they extended and developed over the years as Gerald is keen on DIY and Anne enjoyed gardening.

They both liked to travel and enjoyed holidays in Switzerland, Germany and Italy, where they travelled ‘to see places, rather than just lie in the sun’.

Gerald already knew of Brampton View having lived on the same side of town all his life and has already settled in well as the 500th resident the home has cared for.

General manager of Brampton View, Kerry Angeloni, added: “We are delighted Gerald has chosen to make Brampton View his home.

“We are sure he will enjoy making new friends and taking part in daily activities.

“Our lovely location and attractive gardens make this a relaxing place to live and it has been a pleasure to welcome Gerald and get to know him at this lovely festive time”.

Gerald will also celebrate his ninetieth birthday with residents and staff at the beginning of the new year.
