50 years of Favell: Take a look at the shopping centre’s nostalgic exhibition – now open to visitors

Take a look at these pictures of Weston Favell Shopping Centre’s nostalgic exhibition reminiscing over the past five decades – which is open to visitors until the end of November.

Long-standing centre manager Kevin Legg and his team invite the Northampton community to mark the 50-year milestone with them.

The exhibition is full of nostalgic photos and pre-recorded interviews with long-standing staff members and customers for visitors to enjoy.

The big birthday bash is planned for next Tuesday (October 29), when the original Wombles will be returning 50 years on from when they opened the shopping centre. Everyone is invited to visit and share this special day with the team and businesses.

Though the exhibition will be open that day, you can get ahead of the crowds and pay it a visit beforehand to fully enjoy the experience.

The team takes pride in the fact they do not just run a shopping centre, but a place the community knows they can turn to during the most difficult times.

People travel across the county to visit and the centre is nearly back to the numbers they used to see prior to the turmoil of the past four years.

Weston Favell has become known for its community events, which are often free and have welcomed thousands of families over the decades – particularly at Christmas time.

Businesses have come and gone over the years, but there are currently zero units available – and the team believes this is testament to the need to provide retail, leisure and services people want and need.

Here is what you can expect if you are planning to pay the exhibition a visit…

The Chronicle & Echo is working with Weston Favell Shopping Centre until the end of October to mark the celebration. If you would like to share your memories and pictures, email [email protected].
