Local business Mick George Ltd has provided a grant of £7,600 to create the leisure amenity at the recreation ground next to the community centre, and will be predominantly aimed at 14 to 17-year-olds.

The development will consist of groundworks in preparation of soft matt flooring and six individual pieces of equipment being fitted.

Given the rural isolation of the village, with limited public transport links and the nearest traditional gym more than five miles away, it was felt this would be an ideal solution for those who have outgrown existing skate ramps, ball parks and junior play areas in the village.

Outdoor gym facilities are cropping up all over the country, providing a social environment in which people can be encouraged to improve fitness, health and well-being.

Mick George finance director Jon Stump said: “We are associated with a number of sporting initiatives and partnerships from professional outfits through to grass roots and this project ties in nicely.

“Where feasible, we will support developments that have a positive influence on giving direction to youngsters, especially when it impacts in a helpful manner towards their health.”

A Parish Council spokesman said: “We would like to thank Mick George Ltd in granting funds for the installation and provision of exercise equipment on Mawsley playing field.”
