'What is the point in the new scooters in Northampton? Aren't they just glorified toys?'

The new e-scooters are toys elevated to transport

I see two issues with this attempt to put e-scooters on the street of our town. Firstly, and please no offence is meant, but I don’t see the point.

The scooters are really toys elevated to be offered as a modern form of transport. Sorry, but travelling from point to point falls into various categories, from high distance by aircraft to short distances by walking, with various options in between, but I can’t see where, apart from “having fun”, the scooter fits in.

In the context of our town centre, over all the years I have visited it, I am always happy to walk about from one end to the other. I might park my car in a car park or even jump on a bus to get there, but walking about seems to be the safe and obvious option, and I can carry my purchases with me, safely.

The other issue is this “trial”. Sorry, but I feel this has been organised to hastily. I’m not totally against alternative means of getting about, but we have to arrange the infrastructure appropriately and promote safety for all citizens.
