'Northamptonshire's roads are in an appalling state'

Over the past few years Northamptonshire roads have significantly deteriorated into an absolutely terrible state. The roads have potholes so deep that on impact with one there is a feeling that the suspension has been destroyed or a tyre must be punctured.

But getting on my nerves even more than this, are the drivers showing off in their personality bubbles, displaying feelings of entitlement and less empathy for other road users. These people are doing barmy things like slaloming between lanes to avoid the hole and the prospect of damaging their cars and SUVs; forcing oncoming traffic to give way… without even a thank you gesture.

The local authorities seem hell-bent on spending resources on smart motorways and to catch people out who are speeding for example, and then blame cutbacks for the state of our roads.

Understandably the coronavirus pandemic has been the primary focus of Northamptonshire County Council’s attention, so the two new thermal repair machines to be used by KierWSP which were scheduled to begin work from March 2020 has been put on the back burner. Reportedly, the cabinet member for highways has not set a deadline of when he expects the machines to be in action.

Mr Morrell dubbed Mr Pothole advises stirring up Northamptonshire County Council by demanding action – which is easier said than done in practise.

I have never known our roads to be as poor as they are at present.

And the noticeable absence of good manners and common sense from some drivers leaves a lot to be desired.
