Online giant Amazon to create 140 jobs with new delivery depot in Northampton

The internet giant, which has just opened a vast parcel processing centre outside Coalville in Leicestershire, is set to open a smaller hub for local deliveries at Grange Park, Northampton, next month.

The warehouse in Saxon Avenue would employ 15 people directly to sort the parcels, but would also contract 10 independent logistics companies to deliver them.

Those companies are looking to hire more than 125 drivers to take on the work.

UK Director for Amazon Logistics, Jamie Stephenson, said: “Amazon Logistics adds capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery network, enabling us to meet the delivery needs of customers.

“Amazon Logistics is also helping independent local delivery companies to grow their businesses by providing state of the art technology to deliver Amazon orders.”

Amazon began opening smaller delivery stations in 2012 to cope with the rising popularity of one-day deliveries.

The company offers free standard delivery to more than 14,000 Amazon pickup locations, ranging from “Amazon Lockers” to Post Office branches and local shops
