The three candidates are Stephen Mold (Conservative), Kevin McKeever (Labour) and Sam Watts (UKIP).

Hustings organiser Marion Turner-Hawes said: “Election day is fast approaching, but few of us even know the names of candidates let alone what their policies are.

“We have arranged a hustings for the people and businesses of Wellingborough and surrounding areas to find out more about these important elections and the policies and plans of the each candidates.

“The police and crime commissioner is a very new role.

“Our first commissioner was elected in November 2012 with the main aim of overseeing the performance of the police and ensuring the priorities and voices of our communities are heard and acted upon by the police.

“While you might question whether this has happened, the role of police and crime commissioner is still an important one, and the safety and inclusiveness all of us as residents and workers could be significantly affected by the person elected to this role.

“Some of you may not be planning to vote in this election, but at a time of increased crime and anti-social behaviour in our community and reducing police and community resources, the importance of getting policing right and ensuring that we are heard, respected and included, could not be higher.

“So please join us to have your say and make sure who ever is elected is under no illusion about the significant community safety concerns of the people of this area, and that we expect to be included in how these are tackled.”
