The events are being organised to mark the local air ambulance’s 25,000th mission which was completed earlier this month.

Anyone who has been helped by the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance or Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance is invited to attend one of two ‘meet the crew’ reunion events. They are open to people who have personal experience of the air ambulance either as a patient or relative of a patient.

The events are being held at Princethorpe, near Rugby, on August 10 from 6pm to 8pm and at Staunton Harold Hall, Ashby-de-la-Zouch on July 16 from 1pm to 3pm.

Former patients and their families can register free of charge to attend one of the events by emailing [email protected] or  sign up at theairambulanceservice.org.uk/patientstories or call 01926 633868.

The charity’s director of operations, Richard Clayton, is urging people to get involved. He said: “The lives of thousands of patients and their families across five counties have been transformed by the air ambulance and the skills and expertise of our pilots, doctors and critical care paramedics. It’s a remarkable achievement for a service that only launched in 2003, receives no government funding and relies entirely on support from local communities to keep flying. It is certainly something to celebrate.”

Every mission undertaken by the local air ambulance costs £1,700 which is all raised from public donations, income from charity shops and fundraising events.

The 25,000 th mission is a combined total for call outs by Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and its sister service Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance.

One of our helicopters and the new night car – along with the crew – will be in attendance at each event.
