Northampton Town promotion made the day of man with autism, reveal carers

Eldean Christie has been visiting Sixfields for the last three home games to give him a valuable outlet.

The Chestnuts care home arranged for his photograph to be in the matchday programme last Saturday, but he was also able to take part in an impromptu celebration with the players on the pitch after the final whistle.

John Martin, manager of The Chestnuts, said: “I want to say a massive thank you to David Buchanan, who took the time to celebrate with our young person when he noticed that he had staff with him, and he had special needs.

“This really made this young person’s day and he now has this photo on his bedroom wall and he will now be a regular supporter at your home games.”

Trips to Sixfields are part of some work The Chestnuts is doing with Eldean towards social skills, teaching him when he can be loud and when he can be quiet.

Linda Fish, operations director, said: “Eldean has an outlet when he goes to Sixfields and it is huge for him, as a supporter, to be there on such an important day for the club. He loved it.”
