Ofsted inspectors have praised the “unfailingly polite and courteous” pupils at Lings Primary School after a visit on February 2.

A report states: “Pupils clearly enjoy coming to the school because it is an exciting and challenging place to learn. The very high attendance rates are a testament to pupils’ keenness to learn and grow, not only in mathematics, reading and writing but also in dance, music, drama and sport.

“Pupils are able to take part in many activities held in the performing arts school at the weekend and in the many sporting clubs managed by the school. This contributes strongly to pupils’ engagement in education in its widest sense.”

The inspectors were also pleased with the high number of responses to Ofsted’s online questionnaire, Parent View, and the number of text responses received, demonstrating the school had the “trust of the community.”

One parent wrote, ‘Lings Primary School is more than a school, it is a family and a community. Whether your child is in Reception or Year 6 you are treated the same….The opportunities offered at this school are exceptional and I really appreciate every one of the experiences my child has had.’

Headteacher Leigh Wolmarans, who was described as “highly committed and creative” in the report, said the good rating was down to the hard work of pupils and staff.

He said: “The combined English and Maths results were above national and Lings has started to close every gap in learning possible.

“This is a phenomenal achievement by a committed group of people that are passionate about the school.

“But the journey does not end there as they are all fully aware of things that can be improved and

opportunities that can still be accessed.

“As the report says - any weaknesses in pupils’ learning are swiftly addressed and eradicated.

“So what does the future hold for Lings Primary? They have stated that they want to be a ‘great’ school, a school that is good in everything it does and aims to develop every child as an individual.”
