Northampton headteacher takes up new role for rival academy chain

The Chronicle & Echo reported this week that Philip Cantwell, who has led Malcolm Arnold Academy to a “good with outstanding features” Ofsted rating, had resigned and would not be returning for the start of the summer term.

It has been announced today that Mr Cantwell has taken up a new role with Creative Education Academies Trust (CEAT), which sponsors Abbeyfield School in Northampton.

Mr Cantwell, who will start his new job in September, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining CEAT and very much looking forward to supporting their academies in the drive to become outstanding providers of a distinctive education”.

Creative Education Academies currently sponsors four secondary academies – Abbeyfield School in Northampton; Ash Green School in Coventry; Fair Oak Academy in Rugeley; and Hagely Park Academy in Rugeley.

The trust is planning to sponsor two more secondary schools– Thistley Hough Academy in Stoke-on-Trent and The Weavers Academy in Wellingborough as well as two primary schools Harpfield Primary Academy in Stoke and Queen Eleanor Primary Academy in Northampton.

Marc Jordan, chief executive of Creative Education Academies, said: “The appointment of our first full-time Director of Education is a significant milestone in our capacity to support and challenge our academies to develop rapidly as providers of the highest standards of education”.
