Northampton gig night to go ahead despite tragic death of indie act Viola Beach

The four-piece indie act from Warrington in Yorkshire and their manager were killed after the car they were travelling in plunged off a drawbridge in Stockholm, Sweden on February 14.

Viola Beach had been due to play at the Roadmender on Ladys Lane, on Friday, April 8 alongside local acts Oh Boy! And Fox Chapel.

But Paul Brown, who runs the Stalkers night at the venue, said the event will go ahead despite the tragedy, with all the proceeds set to go to the families of those who died.

Mr Brown said on the event’s Facebook page: “By now many of you will be aware of the tragic passing of Viola Beach and their manager Craig Tarry last weekend.

“The band was due to play a Stalkers Night on 8th April at The Roadmender. Having spoken to the bands involved, it has been decided that we will carry on with this event.

“Any profit made on this evening will go towards the families or a charity of the families’ choice.

“We would like to offer our condolences to the families and friends during this difficult time.”

Viola Beach’s single Swings and Waterslides made it to number one on the iTunes chart a week after the young band’s death, after a Facebook campaign was launched.
