Victoria Haynes, of Harpole, only thought she was going to the ITV studios in London on Saturday to watch the show as an audience member.

But until the 27-year-old was picked out of the crowd by co-host Ant McPartlin, she had no idea her parents and boyfriend Daniel Garnham had been planning an elaborate hoax for the past six months, which ended with Daniel getting down on one knee and proposing in front of six million viewers.

She said: “I was just so shocked, I can’t explain it.

“When I saw Daniel come out from backstage, everything just became a blur. This sort of thing doesn’t happen to normal people.”

On the show, hosts Ant and Dec first played Victoria hidden camera footage of her and Daniel’s round-the-world trip last year as part of the “We Know What You Did Last Summer” spot.

It revealed her parents had been following them on their travels and unbeknown to Victoria, it was her dad Ian speaking on the aeroplane tannoy as she flew home

from Malaysia and mum Margaret was only metres away when she went sky-diving in New Zealand.

But the final shock of the night was to reveal that boyfriend Daniel, who works in New York as a member of the Blue Man performance group, had flown over from New York to propose to her live on air.

Victoria, who said yes, still cannot believe how her parents kept the ruse from her - having first got in touch with ITV producers in September.

“They didn’t even tell my little brother,” Victoria said. “It’s crazy how they managed to keep it a secret, they weren’t even going to tell my partner until he asked dad whether he could marry me.”

What was just as surprising for Victoria, who currently works as an office temp in Northampton, was to see her mum taking part in a skydive for the show.

“She has never even been on a rollercoaster, she wouldn’t even put her head underwater.”

Victoria and Daniel, who first met two-and-a-half years ago playing the lead roles in a Shakespeare production, are currently looking for wedding venues.
