Northampton to celebrate Diwali with dancing and lights
Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, will be marked with a colourful procession and family friendly activities.
Northampton Borough Council has been working in partnership with the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation and Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire’s School of Life to celebrate the festival with the free community event during half term.

Hide AdA community workshop, Strictly Dance Diwali, has been held in the Guildhall with drop-in sessions teaching a Bhangra/Bollywood-style dance and a Dandia stick dance.
The routines have been getting children and adults in the mood for the energetic dances during the Diwali celebrations taking place on the Market Square in Northampton.
Cabinet member for community engagement, Cllr Anna King, said: “It’s been great working together on the activities for Diwali. The free dance workshops, music and procession were not only fun half-term activities for all of the family, but have also provided colourful and lively ways for communities to come together to celebrate the festival of light in Northampton.”
The Diwali celebration on the Market Square will take place between 10am and 8pm on Saturday October 29, The procession starts at 6pm.
