Northampton casino backs a winner with new motorsport sponsorship deal

A casino in Northampton has been unveiled as the team sponsor of a motor racing team based in the county.

Aspers Northampton is the new title sponsor for WEC Motorsport, a family-run team based in Cosgrove. The team has been racing successfully in Endurance Championships since 2009 with class wins and a number of podium finishes.

A spokesman for Aspers said: “Even though they have Mercedes as near neighbours and Red Bull Racing just down the road, WEC Motorsport is just a little bit different.

“The car is built and maintained by a farm engineer and an electrician, with race day support provided by enthusiastic amateurs, ranging from carpenters to office workers and even a nurse.”

Team boss David Cox has his two sons, Michael and Jason, in the driving seat as they compete in the International Endurance Series powered by Hankook, and they will be competing in the Silverstone 24-hour race this April 1, 2 and 3 which is live on Motors TV as well as www.24hrseries.com.

“The team are firm favourites in the racing paddock, whether that be in the UK, Europe or more recently as far afield as Dubai, the USA and Australia,” the spokesman added.

“The sponsorship deal with Aspers Group has been announced before the new season starts and brings together two teams with a desire to win and a liking for upsetting the odds,” he said.
