Northampton '˜among best places in UK' for skilled professionals
Highly-skilled professionals make up more of the workforce in Northampton than most places in the UK, according to a top bank.
Economists at NatWest have released a report showing 38 per cent of us are in highly-skilled positions.
Sebastian Burnside, senior economist for NatWest, said: “These are management and directorship jobs but also positions where you have to have gained a professional qualification, such as lawyers, accountants and medical staff.
“One of the advantages of this is, with the automation of lots of tasks, the skilled jobs are needed more and more to complement that.
“It suggests Northampton’s economy is in a very good position for the future.”
NatWest’s analysis shows there are now 1.6 million more people working in the UK than in 2008, but they are not doing the same jobs as they were eight years ago.
Highly skilled categories have grown strongest, expanding by 12.5 per cent.
Northampton was ranked third for its percentage of high-skill jobs in the East Midlands, which was the strongest region.
