The proposal would see existing play equipment, which is in poor condition, in the play area between Billing Brook Road and Crestwood Road in Thorplands replaced.

Two separate play areas would be built, one for toddlers with six pieces of equipment and another junior area with three.

The new outdoor gym for adults will feature a street workout climbing frame, an ab bench, a hydraulic chest press, a hydraulic high pulley and a velo spin.

"The proposal intends to improve the existing facilities and create an inclusive play area for the benefit of the local community," states the planning officer's report.

"The proposal would contribute towards the provision of community play facilities within the area and would not adversely impact on the character of the area or neighbouring amenity."

The plans are recommended for approval by borough councillors.
