New maps showing proposed orbital road to the north of Northampton revealed

People have been urged to have their say on the proposals which would link the A5199 and the A43. Consultation on the plans runs until April 8 and exhibitions are being held this weekend and into March for people to see the plans in detail.

A spokesman for the council said: “People’s views are needed because even though it is broadly known where a road is required, a specific route has yet to be determined.

“Resident and road user views, concerns and suggestions are being sought as there are many differing needs and environmental constraints which need to be taken into account when looking at ways to ease congestion.

“The Northern Orbital Route would connect with the proposed Northampton North-West Relief Road, which would link the A428 with the A5199.

“Providing a new link between the A428 and A43 to the north of Northampton is seen as key to providing the road capacity needed to accommodate development proposals at Dallington Grange, Buckton Fields, and Northampton North, as well as improving access to Moulton Park industrial park, and alleviating current traffic problems in villages,” he added.

“It is anticipated that a report will be presented to the county council’s cabinet later this year outlining a preferred route for the Northern Orbital Route,” he said.

Councillor Andre Gonzalez De Savage, county council cabinet member for strategic infrastructure and economic development, said: “We’re one of the fastest growing counties in the country with much of this growth focused on Northampton in particular.

“As such it’s essential that we have the infrastructure in place to accommodate this growth. The north of Northampton is already very congested with traffic so it’s important that we build the roads needed to alleviate some of these pressures.

“The north-west and northern relief routes are the missing pieces of the Northampton ring-road and connecting with Moulton Park will also give an additional economic boost.”

The public exhibition, where staff will also be available to discuss options in more detail, will take place at Moulton College on Friday, February 26 between 9am and 9pm and on Saturday, February 27 between 9am and 3pm. The display will be in the Kelmarsh Suite of the Management Centre.

The exhibition boards will then be available to view at Kingsthorpe library during normal opening hours from Monday, February 29 until Saturday, March 12.
