Minister praises pupils at Northamptonshire school whose maths and reading results were among best in England

Brainy key stage 2 pupils at East Haddon COE Primary School have been applauded by Minister of State for Education Nick Gibb MP for scoring 100 per cent in their reading and maths tests.

In a letter to the school, Mr Gibb congratulates headteacher, Claire Truslove for being in the top one per cent of schools in England for attainment in reading and maths.

Mrs Truslove said the results are as a result of her brilliant team of staff and they are extremely proud of the children's scores, which were achieved last year.

She said: "I absolutely commend all of my staff – we are all part of a big picture and see the children as part of our school family.

"The teachers go above and beyond what is expected of them and genuinely care for each individual.

Mrs Truslove said she would love to give her staff a huge pay rise in recognition if she could.

But she said there are other ways of showing gratitude: "What I can do is look after them and let them know how valuable they are and I think we do that really well. We look after each other which is so important – we are a team and we stick together."

In the letter, Nick Gibb said: 'We want to ensure that every child has the necessary fluency in reading and in mathematics to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and your school has provided this to all your pupils.

'Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved'.

But Mrs Truslove insists her school has not done anything out of the ordinary to achieve these results.

She added: "We are extremely proud of the achievements that all our children have made.

"It was, therefore, an added bonus to receive congratulations from the Minister of State for School Standards recognising the children, staff and parents for all their hard work and dedication.

"There was nothing extraordinary this year, just lots of hard work from some fantastic children and fabulous teachers."
