Man suspected of murdering schoolboy has been returned to the UK after Portugal holiday

James Watson posted selfies while on holiday in Portugal in July. The 35-year-old had been on bail after being arrested in connection with the death of six-year-old Rikki Neave.

James Watson, 35, was arrested in April over the unsolved murder of Peterborough schoolboy Rikki Neave who died aged six in 1994.

Watson had been living in a hostel in Northampton, but last month it emerged he had smuggled himself out of the UK in a motorhome from Dover and had been holidaying in Portugal.

Watson posted a string of photos online showing him drinking beer, sunbathing and even posing nude.

Today Cambridgeshire Constabulary has confirmed Watson has been returned to the UK following an appearance in court in Portugal on August 4.

He has been taken to Bedford prison after breaching the terms of his license and will now be dealt with by the probation service.

A Cambridgeshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit travelled to Portugal to return him and would like to thank the National Crime Agency and Polícia Judiciária for their support.

“They would also like to acknowledge the Crown Prosecution Service for their assistance with the matter.”

Rikki Neave went missing from an estate in Peteborough on November 28 in 1994 and his naked body was found the following day in woodland. He had been strangled.
