Lorry driver seriously injured after his HGV crashes into hedge by M1

A lorry driver is in a 'serious but stable' condition in hospital after his HGV crashed into a hedge by the side of the M1 on the Northamptonshire border.

An air ambulance was called out to the southbound carriageway between junction 14 and 15 at about midday after the lorry left the road.

The M1 was closed in both directions to allow the helicopter to land.

The man, who was aged in his fifties, was treated for multiple injuries and then flown to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where he was described as being in a “serious but stable” condition upon arrival.
