Leaky Northamptonshire village road is likely to be shut for another month

Frustrated villagers in Northamptonshire will have to do without a well-used lane for another month because of a troublesome water leak.

The junction of Spring Lane and Nether Lane in Flore was shut at the end of June, because the potholes along it had been the subject of several complaints.

Drivers had noticed water coming up through the road for several weeks prior to that, which had caused the surface of the lane to break up.

But even though the road has been shut for over a month already, the works are not likely to be finished until the end of August.

The delay had already caused one frustrated passer-by to attach a ‘get it fixed’ sign to a safety barrier.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council’s highways department, said: “Spring Lane in Flore is subject to a temporary road closure to allow for drainage works due to a leak. A diversion is already in place.”

The work has been ordered to start on August 15 and is expected to take two weeks.

Spring Lane sits on top of a naturally occurring water source, which is believed to be the cause of the problem.
