Lamppost to be moved by council following complaints from residents that it blocks pram and wheelchair access
A new street lamp has been installed on Spencer Parade in the town centre but has sparked anger amongst residents as it has been placed in the middle of a footpath.
A County Council spokesman told the Chronicle & Echo that the lighting column will be moved later today and placed back on the other side of the road where the old lighting column was.

Another resident took to Facebook, she said: “Fantastic positioning of new lamp standard on Spencer Parade. Completely blocked any access for prams and wheelchair users.”
A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said: “This lighting column will be moved later today and placed back on the other side of the road where the old lighting column was. There will be no additional expense to the taxpayer as costs will be absorbed in the contract.
“The column was installed at the end of last week. Operatives struggled to get the column placed at the back of the footway due to existing underground cabling.”
