A Northampton man has spoken out against the "disgusting" piles of rubbish left close to his home in Semilong, questioning whether it is the most fly-tipped location in the town.

The mess was located between Lower Thrift Street and Thrift Street and was reported to Northampton Borough Council on Monday (February 15).

Local resident Michael Warnes said: "Fly-tipping is disgusting. People who are dumping this litter on our streets are a mindless minority who think it’s okay to fill public space with their own rubbish.

"We all need to take responsibility and dispose of our rubbish properly and help the county and borough councils, which are both under enormous pressure at this time.

"Some of this rubbish is black bags of domestic waste, shame on those people who are sneaking out and quietly dumping it on street corners instead of putting it out for weekly collections.

"It looks disgusting and I’m ashamed walking past it with my kid, what kind of example is it for them? Most of us take pride in our wonderful town, but this small minority are ruining it."

Michael added that you can even see the mess from space via satellite images.

NBC replied to him on Twitter promising its workers would clean up the mess.

An NBC spokesman said to Michael: "I have reported this to our fly-tipping team to clear this mountain of rubbish. If you have any information on who is doing this, please private message us with all details."

It is believed the council has now cleaned up the mess.

The council spokesman said the best way to highlight any issues with fly-tips, street cleansing issues, missed bin collections and graffiti is to visit its website or use its app
