High Sheriff celebrates role of justice system in Northamptonshire with annual service

Caroline Brocklehurst welcomed visiting senior judges, judges and magistrates who sit in the county's courts, as well as many others who make a valuable contribution to the administration of justice in the county.

By their warrant from the Monarch, High Sheriffs have a responsibility for the well being and protection of High Court Judges who visit the county.

In times past, in fulfilling this responsibility, when the High Sheriff had convened the Assizes (the periodic courts in the county) he or she would arrange a church service for the visiting Judges from the King’s or Queen’s Courts, to begin the Sessions. That tradition is now represented by an annual church service which the High Sheriff arranges for the Judiciary and which marks the vital role the Justice System plays in the life of the county.

Mrs Brocklehurst said: “The church service is an excellent way to recognise the vital role the Judges perform in upholding law and order in the county and to acknowledge all those who work so hard to ensure that justice is administered effectively throughout Northamptonshire."
