Golfers pledge to raise £20,000 to support arts college in Northampton

Colin Miles, club captain, together with Jane Shearer, the club’s ladies captain, have jointly committed to raise up to £20,000 to fund the provision a radio broadcasting and digital technology recording studio at the college.

The school is a secondary special school for pupils with a wide range of learning difficulties, sensory impairment, physical disabilities and autism.

The new studio will provide sixth form students, at The Bee Hive, the opportunity to develop improved communication skills and increased personal confidence prior to entering the next phase of their lives.

As long-standing members of the Wooden Spoon Rugby Children’s Charity the captains are using that charity as the basis for their fund-raising.

A number of events are planned through the year and one of the early events will be a golf equipment sale, which will take place on the practice range at Northamptonshire County Golf Club at 2pm on Saturday April 8.

The sale will consist of a wide range of quality used golf equipment and accessories.

Mr Miles said: “We hope to raise as much money as possible for this fantastic project. Local golfers have kindly donated all of the items and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the fund raising project.

“The sale has been timed at the start of the new golf season so local golfers can obtain a starter set of clubs or for the more experienced upgrade to a more modern driver, woods or rescue clubs, or even a bag of good quality golf balls.”
