A total of £27,123.20 will be made available to the landlords, who between them will be contributing more than £200,000 to the enhancement programme.

The programme involves the following four Gold Street buildings:

* 25 Gold Street - grant of £4,038 (general refurbishment and renovation)

* 30 Gold Street - grant of £10,000 (three flats on upper level, general refurbishment)

* 42 Gold Street - grant of £4,085.20 (renovation of heritage windows and stonework)

* 48 Gold Street - grant of £9,000 (major refit, two flats on upper level, separate entrances to shop/flats and change shop front)

* Improvement works on the properties are expected to start in the summer.

Councillor Tim Hadland, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and planning, has welcomed the investment from landlords in Gold Street.

He said: “I hope this is just the start in giving this gateway area of the town centre a facelift.

“This enhancement programme is something that a lot of Gold Street businesses have spoken to us about in the past and are keen on seeing implemented.

“Several other landlords and businesses are also keen to take part in the programme, but are not in a position to do so at present.

“I hope they can come on board at a later date and that they will want do so even more once they see the improvements taking place during the summer.”
