Free expert advice on welfare, debt and housing now offered from Northampton Guildhall

Free and independent expert advice on welfare benefits, debt, housing and immigration is now being offered at Northampton Guildhall's One Stop Shop.

Specialist advisors from Community Law Service used to offer drop-in sessions and appointments from their Advice Shop in St Giles Street, but have now moved these services to the Guildhall.

All of the services remain completely independent of Northampton Borough Council and any advice given is completely confidential.

Community Law Service has its own offices for consultations at the One Stop Shop and a reception area is open for enquires every day Monday to Friday.

Julie Silver, chief executive, said: “The move means we are easy to find for people already visiting the One Stop Shop.

“And our presence there will also make it easier for borough council staff and other partners to refer people to us for independent advice.”

Councillor Brandon Eldred, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for community engagement, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the Community Law Service’s Information and Access Point to the One Stop Shop.

“People will be able to access not only the council’s services and the Community Law Service under one roof, but also the wider partnership organisations now available in this central location.”

Community Law Service also continues to offer free expert advice via appointments at its advice centre offices in Hazelwood Road, Northampton town centre.

Details of opening times at all CLS offices, including drop-in session times, can be found at www.communitylawservice.org.uk or by calling Northampton 621038.
