Five casualties taken to hospital following serious A45 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a Silver Volkswagen Jetta, which crossed the westbound carriageway over the central reservation into the eastbound carriageway before colliding with a blue Honda Civic travelling eastbound.

Passengers from both vehicles and the driver of the blue Honda Civic sustained serious injuries in the collision.

A spokeswoman from East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 8.19pm last night to a two car collision on the Eastbound carriageway of the A45 near the exit to Great Doddington. Five patients were reported to have been injured including one woman with serious injuries who was thrown from one of the vehicles.

"Due to the number of patients, the paramedic in the fast response vehicle called for support from three ambulance crews. The air ambulance, fire and rescue service and police were also in attendance.

"Two patients were taken to Northampton General Hospital, one to Kettering General Hospital and one to Coventry and Walsgrave Hospital."

The incident, which was first reported just after 8.20pm, happened on the A45 between Earls Barton and Great Doddington and the A45 was then closed in both directions from Great Billing to Wilby Way.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said: “We attended a road traffic accident involving two vehicles.

“Both vehicles were made safe. Five casualties were conveyed to hospital. None of them was trapped.”
