Residents in parts of Northampton are being advised to keep doors and windows closed on Sunday morning while firefighters tackle a blaze.

A caravan caught fire at around 7am, spreading to nearby fences and sheds and leading to thick smoke over Weston Favell and the risk of gas cannisters exploding.

A Northamptonshire Fire spokesman said at 8.30am: "We currently have three appliances in attendance and the cylinders are being cooled by crews.

"Please keep all doors and windows closed and avoid the area around Church Way."

Witnesses reported the sound of cannisters exploding and toxic fumes in the air, but praised the fire crews for their quick response.
