The controversial UKIP leader will make a speech from the purple bandwagon at around 2.30pm today in Market Square. Slim details of his visit had been released on Friday, but party officials could not confirm the location of his visit for security reasons until now.

Mr Farage, who launched the Grassroots Out campaign to see Britain leave the EU in Kettering at the start of the year, is also set to take a tour of the market following the speeches.

At previous venues the politician has faced heckles from members of the public during walkabouts.

The purple battlebus, which is set to belt out the theme tune to prisoner of war movie The Great Escape, on its arrival into the market, has also come under criticism in recent days.

Peter and Greg Bernstein, the sons of the piece’s composer, Elmer Bernstein, said their father would have never given permission for UKIP to use the classic theme tune.

However on Friday UKIP’s parliamentary candidate for Northampton South, Rose Gibbins, said she expected the politician to get a good reaction in the town today.

She said: “I’m sure it will get a good reaction, he has huge support form the UKIP membership.

“It’s a very welcome visit.

“I’m sure his visit will bring a lot of people out into the town.”
