Event bids to help Northampton church workers spot the signs of child abuse

A training event aiming to help church workers in Northampton spot the signs of child abuse is set to be held in the town this weekend.

The Churches’ Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS) ins inviting townsfolk to take part in the event on Saturday, February 6, at Elim Church, Gladstone Road.

The charity says the training session, called Facing the Unthinkable, is aimed at anyone who works or who assists in local churches, such as youth and children’s workers, Sunday school helpers and church leaders.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Should they (people attending the session) come across anything that alarms or concerns them, they will know exactly how and where to go for professional safeguarding advice.

“The end result is that they will become much more confident in every aspect of safeguarding (children).”

The CCPAS was set up in 1977 and assists churches, organisations, social services and other child care agencies by helping them to adopt safe practice in order to protect children from abuse – and youth workers from the possibility of false allegations.

For more information, or to book a place, contact Karen Ledger on 0845 120 4550 or go to www.ccpas.co.uk. Individual bookings cost £22.50 per person, but the cost includes training and a workbook each.
