A community group has secured a grant to fund a new information board located in a Northampton country park.

The Friends of West Hunsbury Parks won a community investment grant from idverde, worth £1,000, which part-funded the board.

Located at West Hunsbury Country Park, on the Wildflower Meadow behind the Railway Museum, the board will inform members of the public of the plant species growing on the site and the wild animals that a wildflower meadow habitat encourages.

Anne Jones, deputy chair of Friends of West Hunsbury Parks, said: “The Friends are extremely grateful to idverde for their contribution, as the interpretation board would not have been possible without this and the other funding which was received from local Councillor Brian Oldham.”

Nicola Clarke, idverde’s community engagement officer, added: “I’m delighted that the funding application was successful and has enabled the Friends of West Hunsbury Parks to create such a beautiful interpretation board for the wildflower meadow.

"Everything pictured on the board can be seen in real life on the meadow. It is a wonderful haven for biodiversity and a real credit to the Friends of West Hunsbury Park who work very hard in partnership with us to manage the meadow.”

Idverde’s community investment fund is open for applications all year round and aims to empower local people to deliver projects that improve their local green space or the public realm, enhance the local environment, and boost the well-being of local people.

Funding can be granted for a variety of projects and activities, including promotion, marketing and education, as well as practical equipment and running costs.

Councillor Mike Hallam, cabinet member for environment, said: “We know there is no shortage of great ideas and enthusiasm in our communities, but a lack of cash can prevent great ideas from reaching their full potential.

"That is why I encourage all local groups to explore the support and funding avenues available to them including the community investment fund that will enable them to improve the environment in their own unique ways.”
