Collections come after the brown bin subscription service - costing £42 a year - was introduced in April.Councillor Jonathan Nunn, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: “Following the introduction of the garden waste subscription service in April this year, we are now looking to recycle the unwanted bins from residents that don’t need or want them anymore.

“It’s encouraging to see so many of our residents have put their unused bins to good use by using them for composting, storage or as water butts, which is great for our environment.

“The bin collection will take time therefore we are asking residents to assist the process by presenting their bins empty as our teams will be unable to collect bins containing waste.”

Each property that has not subscribed to the garden waste collection services will receive a letter with details about the week when their unwanted bin will be collected, as well as a sticker to be placed on the back of the bin to help collection teams identify the bins that need to be removed.

The letter should be delivered by Friday (November 6).

Residents can choose to keep their brown bin if they would like to sign up to the garden waste collection service or to use the bins for composting, storage or as a water butt.

Any unwanted brown bins will be broken down and used to make new recycling bins.
