Sandwich-loving workers in Northampton could soon be able to have their ideal lunchtime pack-up delivered to their office if a new eatery can get the funding to launch.

David Preston is calling on Northampton folk to pledge money to his crowdfunding campaign in a bid to launch the Dapper Sandwich Company, a town centre cafe-come-delivery service that plans to allow customers to order their lunch online.

If the bid is successful, he aims to open an outlet in the town which would source “great quality local ingredients” and would hand any of its leftover sarnies and food at the end of the day to “people in need.”

Mr Preston said: “The idea of this is to provide a healthy alternative to your usual sandwich van.

“I’m not looking to make a fortune out of this, I just want to provide the people of Northampton somewhere to go that is a little different. As long as I cover the costs I will be happy.”

Mr Preston, who lives in the town centre and currently works in supermarket logistics, says that anyone pledging £10 to the crowdfunding campaign, a process by which people give various amounts to a fledgling new business to get it started, will have their name engraved on a mirror inside the cafe.

Anyone who pledges £50 in support could receive a handmade tile to go in the eatery, which could feature a design of the donor’s choice.

The 34-year-old is hoping to raise around £25,000 through the crowdfunding and is looking at possible premises in the town centre to take over.

He added: “It’s not just sandwiches we are hoping to do here - we are looking at hearty vegetable and fruit pots as well - we want to give people a healthy alternative.”
