Swan left with 'horrific' wounds after dog attack at Wellingborough Embankment

A swan is being treated for ‘horrific’ wounds following a dog attack at a Wellingborough beauty spot.

Volunteers from Animals In Need were called out to help the bird at the Embankment in Wellingborough.

Luckily the charity which rescues and re-homes animals is based just down the road at Pine Tree Farm in Little Irchester and has been treating the swan for its injuries, including pain relief.

Annie Marriott from Animals In Need told this newspaper: “The swan is eating and drinking well and should be okay, we have managed to sort most of the wound.”

Cllr David Baker, who is one of the Victoria ward councillors on North Northants Council, went out to help Animals In Need with the recent rescue.

He described the swan’s injuries as ‘horrific wounds’ but added that the bird was now in ‘good hands’ at Animals In Need and will be well looked after.

Animals In Need has been rescuing and re-homing animals across Northamptonshire for 35 years.
