'Rapidly developing' fire spread to ten gardens in Northampton damaging sheds and outbuildings
A “rapidly developing” fire spread to ten gardens in Northampton over the weekend, leaving sheds and outbuildings damaged.
The incident happened on Saturday July 4 at around 5.50pm in Birchfield Road East.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) received multiple 999 calls about the incident and Northamptonshire Police also attended to close nearby roads and evacuate residents, as a precaution.
A NFRS spokeswoman said: “Crews from The Mounts, Wellingborough, Towcester, Kettering, and Moulton attended the incident, where a rapidly developing fire had spread across 10 domestic gardens, involving sheds and outbuildings. Fire Control received multiple emergency calls reporting the incident and coordinated the response to the developing situation.

“Despite the challenging conditions and high temperatures, crews prioritised preventing the fire from spreading to nearby homes and successfully contained it within the affected gardens. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used three main jets and four hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
“Northamptonshire Police also attended the scene, closing nearby roads and evacuating residents from affected properties as a precaution. While there was significant damage to gardens, sheds and outbuildings, no damage was caused to any homes.
“Crews then used thermal imaging cameras to check surrounding gardens for any signs of fire spread and identify remaining hotspots, which were then dampened down.”
The spokeswoman added that a fire investigation has since concluded that the cause is believed to have been accidental.
