A45 between Northampton and Wellingborough closed for two hours as firefighters called to car on fire

A stretch of the A45 between Northampton and Wellingborough was closed for around two hours, as firefighters were called to a car on fire.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) was called at around 8.20pm on Monday June 22, to an incident on the eastbound carriageway between Earls Barton and Great Doddington.

A NFRS spokeswoman confirmed crews from Earls Barton and Wellingborough were called to a car fire and they used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

National Highways said traffic was stopped while the incident was dealt with by the fire service and Northamptonshire Police. There were delays and around a mile of congestion on the lead up to the closure, before the road was fully reopened at around 10.30pm, when congestion cleared quickly.

Fire crews headed back to their stations just after 9pm.

The fire service spokeswoman added that the cause is believed to be accidental.
