DRONE CAM VIDEO: Clubs' concern about axing of Uni of Northampton's sports hall
Sports teams who use indoor facilities at the University of Northampton's closing campus will have no new home at the future site on the banks of the Nene.
Originally the Waterside Campus was to feature a Sports Hub building, alongside outdoor pitches, that was included on original drawings submitted for consultations.
Community clubs that use the current sports hall on Park Campus took this to be a replacement building.
But the university has now confirmed the building will have only changing rooms and storage space, much to the dismay of a number of teams that have approached the Chron.
The university said this week that the changes to the plan were made in June, but unlike the announcements about the start of the build and launch of the consultation, no announcement was sent to the media.
Instead, the information was put out as an update on its Waterside Campus website and social media.
The university said: "After careful consideration, the scope for the sports facilities and specialist teaching sports teaching spaces located on the Waterside Campus has been revised.
"These revisions have been necessary to develop a campus best suited to the evolving requirements of the University, while maintaining the development schedule."The revised proposals detail the on-campus provision of three Multi-Use Games Areas and a floodlit all-weather pitch, alongside a sports pavilion which will provide showering, changing and sports storage facilities. The University is now in negotiations with a to offer our students and staff access to further sports facilities, including a gym in close proximity to the Campus.
It is not known whether community sports teams will benefit from any deal.
