Dramatic scenes as firefighters tackle Monday morning car blaze in Northampton

This was the dramatic scene in Northampton on Monday morning as firefighters battled a car blaze.

The Citroen C4 caught fire in Lower Adelaide Street at around 8.25am, destroying the vehicle and sending plumes of thick smoke billowing into the sky over Semilong.

An Alpha Romeo parked close by also suffered damage to its boot.

Flames quickly engulfed the vehicle also endangering properties in the narrow street. But firefighters from The Mounts using breathing equipment quickly brought the blaze under control with only minor damage to one house window which cracked in the heat.

Early investigations suggested the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
