Do you know an inspirational woman in Northampton?

Northampton Borough Council and Women’s Forum are once again looking to celebrate and recognise the achievements of local women.

The Inspirational Woman Award 2016 looks at those who volunteer their time to help others, to run clubs and activities and to mentor others. This can be volunteering in its broadest form.

People can nominate a woman who has had a profound effect in the work place, in school, by supporting, by mentoring and by being a great role model for others.

It could be your neighbour or friend who has helped you with your life or it could be someone who organises a group or activity, or offers mentoring support to others.

The Inspirational Woman Award for Northampton is presented in partnership with BBC Radio Northampton and Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire.

Last year’s winner was Faye Jordan who was chosen for her tireless work in helping others and giving them confidence and help to achieve their goals through sport. Overcoming illness and her own physical challenges, Faye has represented England at national level in powerlifting and has competed in Britain’s Strongest Woman Competition.

Jane Carr, Chief Executive of Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire said, “We have some fabulous volunteers in Northampton and it’s important to recognise their dedication and the time that they take out of their busy lives to volunteer. I’m looking forward to meeting some of the inspirational women of Northampton at the award ceremony in March.”

Councillor Anna King, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for Community Safety and Chair of the Northampton Women’s Forum, said: “There are so many inspirational women out there and they deserve to be thanked and recognised for their acts of kindness and the ways they have made a difference. This award highlights their achievements and the impact they have made either on other people or perhaps their community. Our Northampton event has always proved popular and it is a great opportunity for women to network.”

Last year over 100 nominations were received with the finalists being profiled on BBC Radio Northampton. A ceremony is then held at the Guildhall on Saturday, March 5, as the finale of the town’s International Women’s Day event.

The closing date for nominations is Wednesday, February 3.
