Desborough youngster to cycle 100 miles to the coast for charity

Bethany Spencer, 13, will ride to ‘Sunny Hunny’ with her dad Alan on Saturday, July 9.

She is raising money for the British Heart Foundation and decided to set herself the goal after her grandad Hugh Joyce, of Downham, Norfolk, suffered a heart attack in 2011.

Bethany said: “Without the work of the NHS and research of the British Heart Foundation my grandad is unlikely to have survived and I would have been without him today.

“My grandad is always there for me, and therefore I would like to give something back to the charity so that they can continue their work, and continue to help those who have, or will suffer and fight like my grandad.”

Bethany’s father Alan said: “As a junior triathlete and cyclist, Bethany decided that she wanted to challenge herself while raising money.

“Hunstanton provides the prefect end point for the ride as it was also the town in which Hugh was brought up.”

The duo are due to set off from Desborough at 7am and will wind their way through Castle Rising and Sandringham before ending at the upper green in Hunstanton between 2pm and 3pm.

Friends and family will be waiting to greet Bethany and will also have collection buckets for donations to the cause.
